The academy was established by Padmashree Dr.D.Y.Patil in 1991 with the aim of providing education in all fields, thus spreading education to deserving students and thereby helping them to realize their dreams of a career in professional courses. It runs several courses including Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, etc. There are totally 5 institutes in Ambi campus. The Academy is located on about 65 acres of lands, aduoing the town of Talegaon Dabhade, in Pune District in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is about 40 kms from Pune and about 140 kms from Mumbai. One has to travel by road along the Mumbai_Pune highway and turn off the highway into Talegaon MIDC. It is on the way to JCB and General Motors, INA Bearings, POSCO etc. in Talegaon MIDC.

Talegaon is home to many multinational companies and agro-based units. It is also home to thriving poultry belt, largest in Asia in terms of broiler birds per square mile. Talegaon is well known for its beautiful climate. It’s a beautiful town with lush green surrounding and Sahyadri Ranges around it. Indrayani and Pavana are major rivers flowing in Talegaon. It is extremely well connected to two major cities in India, Pune,Mumbai and Khed(Rajgurunagar) .
